Slothlike, Really

Well, no, we have not babystepped off the face of the earth.

See, I go through these different obsessions, very much like my father, and right now I'm in the middle of a reading jag.

I have a fairly limited number of authors that I truly enjoy reading, so most of my books have been read 4 or 5 times. When I do discover a new author, I read pretty much everything by them. Then I might not read anything for a few weeks. Right now I'm reading Ellis Peters' books; both the Cadfael series and the Inspector George Felse series. Between the two there are 34 books. My poor family!

I had Zaya take the above picture of his neglectful mother. It took a few tries, but we finally got one we could use. Mim, on the other hand, hasn't quite grasped the idea. Her picture is below.

I'm averaging a little less than a book a day, so, all in all, there isn't time for much else. I just finished one, though, so I'm going to rush around now and put some supper in the crock pot, do some laundry, and pretend to be a good mother.

At least until naptime.

And the crazy thing is that I don't really like Ellis Peters' style that much. They're OK, but fairly predictable and with unconvincing characters. Oh well. 11 down and 23 to go. Pray for Art, if you've got a spare moment.

I know what you mean. I'll go for days just reading. Then it's nothing but drawing for days. In between there is a day or two where I clean like mad.

It's really good for your kids to be part of a "reading" family, then it's natural for them to entertain themselves with reading when they are older. It's a joy when your kids are too quiet, and you find them completely absorbed in a good book.

That's so funny, because I just recently decided to try reading a Cadfael book again. I always liked the videos, but every time I start to read a book I somehow never end up finishing it.

I used to love to read, and I still do. But I find that I don't have the attention span for it anymore. I don't know if it's bad reading choices or what.

But I want to instill a love for reading in our little one. So we read daily. I love that time together!

Obviously Mim just took a photo of what Zaya left out. She's a minimalist.

I get into periods of obsession too. I always have. I have certain things that I rotate in and out of my life throughout the year. I still keep up with all of them, even when I'm not obsessed with that subject at the time.

For example, now I'm on a reading jag and practicing my guitar a lot. But I still take photos and work on the photography, writing, and other stuff, just less. Six months from now, I might spend those reading hours at the computer or out taking photos, while reading less and not practicing my guitar as much.

They used to call people like us, renaissance men (or women).
